Producing

As a producer for the 10pm newscast at KOMU 8 News, I wrote local and national content, including headlines and teases to promote unique, important stories. I created graphics to accompany stories when necessary. I organized the rundown with timeliness and relevancy in mind. I facilitated the newscast flow by keeping time on shows in the booth and keeping communication with reporters at live shots and anchors in studio. I communicated with reporters and directors throughout the shift to make sure the show runs smoothly.

For this show, I lead with headlines showcasing our stories including severe weather and an exclusive HFR. Right before the show, there was breaking news that I had to find time for in my show, while finding a place where it could fit in and make sense. I had time to practice the moving live shot with the reporter, so I felt better even though it was unplanned in the beginning. I was glad I was able to move the anchors around in this show and have reporters at different setups. One thing I would like to have fixed is cushioning for more time around sports. We had to cut out pretty fast at the end since we ran out of time.

For this show, we lead with a cold SOT and ended with a live shot for our headlines. Something that was challenging for this show for me, was cueing a live headline toss, and then cueing a reporter two minutes later while keeping timing for the show. We also had a live shot in another state and had to trouble shoot because the reporter was running out of battery life for the camera and lights. We were able to keep in contact and make sure to get his shot up in between hits without wasting more battery.

For this show, we lead with another mini-headline package to showcase our top 3 stories of the night. While we had a technical difficulty with our camera during our anchor intro for the show, everything else throughout went smoothly. I believe we had good content that mirrored our community's values.
